Missional

We've spoken quite a bit about being missional recently - here are two excellent posts which unpack the word a bit more and also looks at ways in which it's been (horribly) misused:

Passion in Joburg on August 9th

Exciting news - if you don't already know, PASSION is coming to SA in August, the 9th (the Saturday of Change Agents - haha!) See more details at: http://www.268generation.com/worldtour/. David Crowder Band, Chris Tomlin and Louis Giglio are coming.

This probably doesn't change any of our plans, but it might be interesting to consider allowing people to be a part of that too, considering that for some Christians this is something they'd not want to miss...

What do you think?

Shift from attractional church to a missional church

I'm part of NieuCommunities - a group which trains missional leaders. It's part of a wider organisation called Church Resource Ministries which has a podcast section on their site. Their latest podcast is a discussion on the shift happening within church. Here's the summary:

Hugh Halter, director of CRM's Missio team discusses Zer0 church plant training with Vance Grace, director of Church Planting for the Mid-America District of the Christian Missionary Alliance. Topics discussed: the shift from a program / attraction-based church to a relational / community-based church. Vance discusses how Zer0 has done in his own denomination, including the positive kingdom and financial implications of the missional model vs. an attraction-based model.

Planning for August 2008

Thanks for the meeting this last Wednesday, everyone! It was great to see the group again and also to have fresh energy from new faces, which was much appreciated. As we start thinking through how to plan for the August conference, the Change Agents website might be helpful. There is already a Leadership Team group set up, which means only members of the leadership team are able to view posts on it.

The address is: http://www.changeagents.co.za/leadership-team
Make sure you are logged in before you try to view this link, otherwise you won't be able to see anything on it. Your username is your full name and your password is whatever you set it to be - otherwise ask me to reset it.

Excellent! Our website has the potential to help us plan and discuss things online which can then contribute to our regular meetings. You can comment on any posts (like this one) or create a Group post.

Let me know if I can help you with anything, and let the conversation begin!

Paradigm shifts in ministry

We've talked about paradigm shifts in ministry for quite a while now. John asked Tara very nicely if she wouldn't summarise a book (whose title I do not remember) and her summary is very in-depth. Here are the main points:
